Sunsetting Momentory: Thank You and Next Steps

I've made the difficult decision to end support for the Momentory journaling app on iOS and Android, effective August 2026.

Momentory had a promising start, even being featured by Google Play in their "Top 5 New Apps of 2023" list, but since then usage has dropped to a point where it no longer makes sense to continue supporting the app in the way I believe it deserves to be supported. Surviving in a crowded app store as an indie developer is tough as it is, but it is even harder when both Apple and Google have released free journaling apps that come bundled with their platforms.

Even though the app didn’t quite find traction, I proud of what was built: a beautiful, focused space for evidence-backed positive journaling practices. I feel its my responsibility to provide a path to preserve your data and find an alternative at your own pace.

Your Data

If you are currently using Momentory, the app will continue to work exactly as it did before. However, because there will be no future updates, I cannot guarantee that it will continue to function if future iOS or Android releases introduce breaking changes.

Because of this, I strongly recommend everyone export their journal data and move to a new journaling app. While there are no apps exactly like Momentory, I recommend Day One. To make this transition easier, I have built a dedicated Day One export feature into the app. You can also export your entries as CSV.

How to move your data to Day One

1. Ensure you have the latest version of Momentory, v2.3.0
2. Open Momentory settings page and open the "Export & import" page
3. Tap the "Export to Day One" button
4. You will be asked if you want to prepend your entires with emojis that coorespond to the entry category
5. When export is complete, a ZIP file will be created at the location you choose
6. Download the Day One app for iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows: https://dayoneapp.com/
7. Import the ZIP file into Day One (See official instructions)

How to export your data as CSV

1. Open Momentory settings page and open the "Export & import" page
2. Tap the "Export to CSV" button

Purchases and Subscriptions

All in-app purchases and subscriptions have been removed from the last release of this app and all features have been unlocked.

If you currently have a subscription to Momentory+, your subscription will automatically be canceled and will no longer renew. If you have made a recent purchase and would like help with a refund, please reach out to me directly at joel@okayest.studio
